5 ways to overcome PDF Print E-mail

In first Peter chapter 1: verse 6 "In this you greatly rejoice... though now for a season.. or a little while... if need be...

You have been grieved by various trials and temptations. According to this scripture: temptations.. testing and trials are only for a season.. "If need be". The first thing that we have to understand is: Testings..trials..and temptations of ungodliness do not come from God. God is a holy God and this is his holy word.

If we look at it any other way our faith could be weakened. Second, temptations, testings, trials, and pressures are not designed by God to perfect us. Let's think about this.. would any good parent tempt or test their child hoping thy would suffer in some way to teach them something?

The word of God in 2 Tim 3:16 says that the scriptures are what are used to teach us, what is true and show us what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. I hear alot of Christians say, "well, I though all things work together for the good." That's not what it says. All things work out together for the good for those who love God, and are called according to his purposes.

What's God's purposes? I thought it was to save mankind, heal us.. defeat the works of the devil and set us free. We can take scriptures out of context and miss a chance to overcome. How can we trust God to deliver us if we think that he is the one who created our problems? It's like sickness, if we think God is allowing and putting sickness on us to try to teach us something.

Why are we going to the doctor trying to get better? Wouldn't be that be going against God's will? I'm saying you shouldn't go to the doctor. The scriptures are filled with instances where Satan is the one who causes diseases and sicknesses and lack. To overcome we must know the truth; it's the truth that sets us free. But only the knowledge of the truth and what we put in to practice that sets us free. In the book of Mark chapter 4 it says Satan comes to steal the word from our hearts. It is Satan who comes to kill, to steal, and to destroy (John 10:10). How can we overcome if we don't know who the thief or the enemy really is?

One of the scriptures says we are to gird up the loins of our mind. To stand strong on the word and to approach any problem with the answer. We are to speak to our mountains, not agree with them. Paul said in Philippians 4:4.. One way we can overcome is by "rejoicing in the lord always". Rejoicing blows the devil's plans. Especially when he tries to intimidate us. We are to stand behind our shield of faith and rejoice!!!

Now let's not get off into false teaching that says "Praise God for our problems" either. No we do not thank God for our problems!!! Job 5:22 gives us some insight into God's attitude toward that kind of thinking. God told Job "at destruction and famine you shall laugh" You can't laugh at a problem until you know what God says about it.

God is not telling you to laugh and to rejoice because of the situation, but to rejoice because the devil has been defeated long ago, and we have victory in Jesus!!! There's a song that goes "victory in Jesus my savior...forever he sought me." The answer can be always found in the word of God. In Ps 18:10: the word of God says the name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous run to it and are safe.

We do not overcome our doubts and fears by isolating yourself from our problems. And then getting over into some kind of "fantasyland" pretending the problem doesn't ever exist!! No, we are to face our mountains with the truth-Jesus said.. "thy word is truth" (John 17:17). The word "truth" is the highest form of reality that exists. It's not what somebody else says about it. God's word is the final truth, and he said run to him and rejoice. In the book of Job, Satan came to destroy everything Job owned.

God was the only one who made him wealthy in the first place. Job was the richest man in all the east. If you read the entire book, you know that Job was blessed with twice as much as he had lost!! God told Job to "laugh at his famine and destruction". Many people think that God brought these problems on Job, but he did not.. God told him how to overcome them!

Joy brings laughter, joy creates strength. But, if you do not know what the word say about joy and overcoming you will never be able to experience it!! Whatever you are facing right now, it might be some trail or temptation. Maybe you are believing in God for some finances or for a healing, or maybe for some deliverance from something that you know you're not supposed to be doing.

God says to offer the sacrifice of Joy, now praise him. Now laugh because he's laughing right now at the plots of those who are planning something against us. If you have a problem laughing, that is a good indication that you have not been trained up in the word of God. Or, maybe you've been trained to sit down and cry or to indulge in self-pity. You may be cryng out for someone to sympathize with you. Sympathy never finds a solution!! It only sees problem as hopelessness!!

Jesus never moved with sympathy, he moved with compassion. Compassion finds the answer and acts upon it.

Isaiah 64:5 says that God joins in with those who rejoice and work the works of righteousness.

Proverbs 17:22 "a merry heart does good..it's like a medicine for our spirit and soul". Learning to laugh will do us some good. It helps us to get our minds off the problem and on the one who can solve it. You can approach it with faith in your heart and assurance from the word of God. God's hand is never too short that it can't reach out and pull us over our problem.

Jesus left us his word on how to live a "worry-free" life. In Matt 6:31 he says that we do not have to live in insecurity or have a doubtful mind. But that we can live with an attitude of assurance, knowing that God will take care of us. If we seek first the kingdom of God first if we will do this, then. It pleases the father to give us the kingdom. (v32). The things that Jesus said that belong to us. Are the very things that Satan tries to get us to worry about the most. He tries to make us doubt that God will ever give us the necessities of life. Just before Jesus left the earth, he said "Lo, I am always with you".

He also said "I will never leave you nor forsake you." In spite of what Jesus promised, many Christians still suffer from insecurity and unbelief. Which is one of the greatest weapons in Satan's tools of fear. God told us over 300 times do not be worried or be afraid. Deut 8:18 says "you shall remember the Lord your God." For it is he that gives you power that he may establish his covenant. Fear like faith is a spiritual force. This is the reason Jesus said "Take no thought, fear not, do not doubt." "Don't you know that your heavenly father loves you and will take care of you?" See, there's no need for us to worry about anything!! Because greater is he, who is in you than he who is in this world. Someone once asked me "who's your role model?" When I look at that bible, I see a man who made the lame walk, and the blind see, who had the power to command the dead to rise up from the grave. I see a man that looked at his enemies and said "father, forgive them, for they know not what they do!!" When I look at the bible I see a man who was despised and rejected and pierced for our sins. I'm telling you there's no man I look up to because this man, in this bible will never leave me and never let me down.

This man will never do me wrong. He's my example. He overcame. I'm not trying to be like anybody else. I want to be what God wants me to be. When I look into this bible I'm not going to be satisfied until I see the lame walk and the blind see. I'm not going to be satisfied until the holy ghost jumps on you and me. And we all begin to pray in tongues!! I'm not going to be satisfied until our children get set free from the witchcraft of drugs and prescriptions. Look at somebody and say that's what I want.

Isaiah54:17 declares: "No weapon formed against you shall prosper." I can overcome ; NOT because of what I've done, but what Jesus has done.
